The Tomhannock Reservoir provides drinking water to over 135,000 people in our region. This project is part of the Tomhannock Rural Land Campaign. Learn more at www.tomhannockruralland.org.
What to expect & what to bring
This volunteer event will include up to three hours of trash cleanup along shorelines and roadsides around the Tomhannock Reservoir. Please bring gloves, water, and a snack, and wear weather-appropriate layers and sturdy footwear. Trash bags and orange safety vests will be provided.
About the event leader
Sophie Schwarz-Eise has lived in Rensselaer County with her family since she was 3 years old. Moving from Arizona, she quickly fell in love with the seasons and wildlife of Upstate NY. She is currently a student at SUNY Binghamton, where she is studying environmental science. In her spare time, Sophie enjoys running, hiking, skiing, and just being outdoors, which led to her discovery of the RPA properties. Today she enjoys exploring the many, diverse properties on the Rensselaer Plateau with friends, family, and her two Bernese Mountain Dogs any time she gets the chance. Sophie is a member of the RPA Board of Directors and leads the RPA NextGen Task Force.

RPA NextGen Task Force is a new group that provides opportunities for young adults and professionals, ages 14-40, to connect with others who share a passion for conservation, the outdoors, and volunteering.
