Happy Hour

with Nine Pin Cider

Saturday, June 20 at 6 p.m. on Zoom

Have you heard about hempcrete, the amazing green building material? Now’s your chance to learn more!

Join us for a fun happy hour virtual lecture and hear about how this sustainable building material could change the future, and about a cabin restoration project right here on the Rensselaer Plateau!

Right now, a dilapidated hunting cabin at RPA’s Albert Family Community Forest is slated for an incredible makeover by Ecoform Design to become an ADA-compliant nature classroom and meeting space. Ecoform co-founders Sam Berrigan and Cam Kasper - both members of the Class of 2020 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) - started experimenting with hempcrete while they were Sustainability Studies students at RPI.

When Sam and Cam learned about hempcrete's amazing insulation and carbon sequestration properties, they knew that it was the future of green building! They decided to take on this renovation to refine their methods and give our community an accessible place to gather and continue to connect with nature.

They have already been awarded prizes for their innovative techniques, and a grant from Climate Smart Community, East Nassau. During this lecture, Cam and Sam will tell us all about the cabin renovation project and about hempcrete's hopeful future in sustainable, environmentally-friendly building.
