About this outing
Have you ever walked in a forest and wondered about the trees and the impacts they have on the surrounding forest? You are invited to join outing leader Matt Thatcher for a hike at Poestenkill Community Forest to learn more about the trees that call our forests home. Along with the basics of tree identification, this outing will cover some basic forestry practices and ecology principles.

What to expect & what to bring
This outing will involve 2 hours of mostly on-trail walking. There will be some periods of stopping to gather around trees. Bring water and snacks. Make sure to dress in warm layers and wear sturdy, warm, weather-appropriate footwear.

About the outing leader
Matt Thatcher is a graduate of SUNY-ESF Ranger school and currently working as a biologist technician doing water quality work under an environmental consultant. He has led several outings for RPA in the past few years.
