The Rensselaer Plateau Alliance has been working since 2008 to conserve the woods, rivers, and wetlands of the Rensselaer Plateau from development and fragmentation. Over the past decade, the elbow grease of many caring individuals like you has paid off – over 13,000 acres on the Plateau have been conserved.

Donate Stock
A gift of stock can provide you with financial and tax benefits while helping RPA. A gift of stock can be of higher value than if you were to sell the same stock and donate the cash.

Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA
If you are 70½ years or older and must take the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) could be used to satisfy the RMD by making a direct, trustee-to-trustee transfer to RPA. By doing so, the RMD will not be reported as income thus lowering your taxable income.
Talk to your financial advisor, IRA custodian or accountant to determine if this would work for you.

Real Estate
Gifts of appreciated real estate avoid capital gains taxes and could entitle you to a deduction against your taxable income, based on your property’s current appraised value.
