Hunting on RPA Lands

To apply for hunting privileges:

• After you have submitted an application form, a member of the Hunting Committee will contact you to verify details and discuss hunting dates

​Hunting is allowed on RPA lands as follows:

​

Albert Family Community Forest

Hunting is permitted at Albert Family Community Forest with pre-registration on a first come, first served basis. We restrict the maximum number of hunters on any one day. Hunting at Albert Family Community Forest is permitted for Big Game (Deer/Bear) only.

Follow the steps at the bottom of this page to apply for hunting privileges at Albert Family Community Forest.

Barberville Falls Preserve

Hunting is not permitted at Barberville Falls.

Bessie's Woods

Hunting is permitted at Bessie's Woods with pre-registration on a first come, first served basis. We restrict the maximum number of hunters on any one day. Hunting at Bessie's Woods is permitted for Big Game (Deer/Bear) only.

Chestnut Hill Preserve

Hunting at Chestnut Hill is allowed by special arrangement only as per the wishes of the donor, Ken James. Public hunting on this land is not permitted.

Grafton Forest

(Gundrum land)

Grafton Forest is now owned by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Please contact NYSDEC for more information about hunting policies for Grafton Forest.

Poesten Kill Bends Preserve

(Co-owned by Rensselaer Plateau Alliance and Rensselaer Land Trust)

Hunting is not permitted at Poesten Kill Bends.

Poestenkill Community Forest

Hunting is permitted at Poestenkill Community Forest with pre-registration on a first come first served basis. We restrict the maximum number of hunters on any one day. Hunting at Poestenkill Community Forest is permitted for Big Game (Deer/Bear) only.

Valentino Family Community Forest

Hunting is permitted at Valentino Family Community Forest with pre-registration on a first come first served basis. We restrict the maximum number of hunters on any one day. Hunting at Valentino Family Community Forest is permitted for Big Game (Deer/Bear) only.

Additional restrictions for hunting at Valentino Family Community Forest: 

• Hunting is limited to 4 hunters per day (with pre-registration)

• Hunting is only allowed between November 1 and December 10

• No hunting on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday

Other Locations

• Lanford Wood Community Forest

• Snake Hill Cliffs

• Raven's Retreat

These locations are not yet fully established and/or open to the public. Some limited hunting may be allowed by special arrangement. Contact info@rensselaerplateau.org with questions.

Hunting applications for 2023 will be open from August 15 until October 15. Requests will be accepted beginning August 15 on a first come, first served basis in advance of the specific season / dates requested.
