Rensselaer Plateau Alliance

Recreate

The Rensselaer Plateau offers a variety of recreation opportunities. Whatever you like to do outdoors, whether it’s hike trails, watch birds, ride bikes, ride horses, showshoe, cross-country ski, or snowmobile, you can probably have a lot of fun doing it on the Plateau.

There are currently five large blocks of public land on the plateau allowing a wide range of activities. Starting in the south with the largest parcel, Cherry Plains State Park and the Capital District Wildlife Management Area combine for over 4300 acres of public land. At the north end of the plateau, Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center offers a variety of education programs for schools and for the general public, in addition over 263 acres of surrounding land has been opened to hiking through conservation easements. Nearby Grafton Lakes State Park has 25 miles of trails on 2357 acres in addition to 6 lakes. Finally, Pittstown State Forest and Tibbets State Forest round out the public lands on the plateau.

Our aim is to connect these large parcels with wildlife and recreation corridors.
